Kirby Dach scored a power-play goal in overtime as the host Montreal Canadiens rallied for a 3-2 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday.

With former Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry in the box, Dach scored at 3:09 off a feed from Sean Monahan at the side of the net.

Kaiden Guhle earned his first two NHL points with a pair of assists for the Canadiens, who overcame a 2-0 deficit. Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield scored, and Sam Montembeault made 26 saves for the win.

Caufield tied it 2-2 at 17:40 of the third period on a one-timer from the bottom of the left circle.

Evgeni Malkin scored twice and Bryan Rust had two assists for Pittsburgh. Casey DeSmith made 36 saves.

The Penguins thought they had a 1-0 lead nearly two minutes into the first period on a short-side shot from Danton Heinen from the bottom of the left circle that went off the bar and appeared to go in behind Montembeault. The call on the ice was overturned after video review confirmed the puck hit the far post and never crossed the goal line.

Montreal seemed to find some life soon after, creating pressure and getting zone time while building up a 9-2 shot advantage just over 12 minutes into the period but couldn’t get one past DeSmith.

Malkin gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead that counted at 3:52 of the second period. Rust intercepted Christian Dvorak’s pass attempt inside the right circle and sent it over to Marcus Pettersson at the left point, and the defenseman fed Malkin for the one-timer from the right circle.

The veteran center made it 2-0 at 7:56 of the middle period. Rust sent a backhand pass behind his back from the top of the left circle through the legs of defenseman Johnathan Kovacevic. Montembeault made a stick save but directed the puck right in front to Malkin for the tap-in.

Suzuki cut the gap to 2-1 at 1:10 of the third period. DeSmith thought he had control of Suzuki’s hard shot from the left circle, but the puck went through his pads to the other side of the crease, and the Montreal captain skated around the net before sweeping in the loose puck on his backhand.
