The St. Louis Blues placed forward Mathieu Joseph on unconditional waivers on Thursday for the purpose of terminating his contract.

Joseph, 29, last played for St. Louis on Feb. 2. He is in the final year of a four-year contract that he signed with Ottawa in July 2022 and can become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end. If he clears waivers, Joseph will be a free agent able to sign immediately with any team.

He has 11 points (two goals, nine assists), a minus-5 rating, four penalty minutes, 28 blocks and 85 hits in 39 games this season.

He also has one goal in two games with Springfield, the Blues’ affiliate in the American Hockey League. He was reassigned to Springfield on Feb. 27 after clearing waivers.

For his NHL career, Joseph has 160 points (61 goals, 99 assists), a plus-8 rating, 200 penalty minutes, 207 blocks and 755 hits in 459 regular-season games for the Tampa Bay Lightning (2018-22), Senators (2022-24) and Blues. He won back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021.

Tampa Bay selected Joseph in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL Draft.
