Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson is expected to miss six weeks after sustaining an oblique injury in Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.
Severson exited the 5-2 setback in the second period due to the injury.
Signed to an eight-year, $50 million contract in June, Severson has totaled eight points (three goals, five assists) and a plus-1 rating while averaging 20 minutes, 54 seconds of ice time in 19 games this season.
Severson, 29, has recorded 271 points (61 goals, 210 assists) in 666 career games with the Devils and Blue Jackets since being selected by New Jersey in the second round of the 2012 NHL Draft. He was traded to Columbus on June 9 in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
