Max Domi scored an unassisted goal at 2:16 of overtime as the Chicago Blackhawks rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the visiting Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Friday.

Andreas Athanasiou scored on a penalty shot, while Philipp Kurashev and Connor Murphy had the other goals for Chicago. Sam Lafferty contributed two assists.

Blackhawks starting goaltender Petr Mrazek stopped 15 of 18 shots and was taken out after two periods. Alex Stalock saved all 10 shots he faced in relief.

Dominik Kubalik notched a goal and an assist and Pius Suter and Dylan Larkin also scored for the Red Wings. Alex Nedeljkovic made 25 saves.

Both teams came into the game fresh, as Detroit hadn’t played since Monday and Chicago had been idle since Saturday.

There were only nine shots on goal in the first period, but the Red Wings made theirs count as they grabbed a 2-0 lead.

Suter scored his first goal at 9:26 of the period without the puck touching his stick. After Detroit won a faceoff in Chicago’s zone, Robert Hagg took a shot from the point that bounced off Mrazek’s skate, then deflected off Suter’s skate and into the net.

Larkin scored just over a minute later with the Blackhawks’ Jarred Tinordi in the penalty box for interference. Larkin ripped a shot from the slot that zipped past a screened Mrazek. Kubalik and Filip Hronek had the assists.

The Blackhawks were awarded a penalty shot at 5:41 of the second period when Hronek was called for hooking against Athanasiou. The former Red Wing cashed in on the opportunity, beating Nedeljkovic through the five hole.

Detroit extended its lead to 3-1 at 11:18 of the middle period. Kubalik redirected an Olli Maatta shot from the point for his second goal this season.

The Blackhawks erased their deficit in the first 10-plus minutes of the third period. Kurashev scored his first goal of the season at 3:46 off a rebound of a Lafferty shot. Jack Johnson had the second assist.

Murphy’s short-handed goal, off another assist by Lafferty, tied it up. Lafferty won a faceoff in Detroit’s zone and Murphy flicked a wrister that fluttered over Nedeljkovic’s right shoulder.
