Cale Makar scored at 2:09 of overtime and the visiting Colorado Avalanche rallied to beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 on Saturday night.

Makar added an assist, Nathan MacKinnon and Brad Hunt had goals, Evan Rodrigues added two assists and Alexandar Georgiev made 28 saves for the Avalanche. Colorado snapped a five-game losing streak.

Zach Hyman had both of Edmonton’s goals, Leon Draisaitl assisted on each of them, and Stuart Skinner turned away 43 shots.

Both teams had prime chances in overtime, but after Georgiev made a big save on Hyman, Makar came through. He skated through the neutral zone, into the left circle in the Oilers end and beat Skinner with a shot to the far side for his 10th goal of the season.

Edmonton went ahead late in the first period with a power-play goal. With Alex Newhook off for interference, the Oilers worked the puck around the Colorado zone. Connor McDavid had the puck at the bottom of the left circle, slid a pass to Hyman in front of the net, and he tipped it past Georgiev at 15:37.

The Avalanche pressed for the equalizer in the second period, but Samuel Girard took a minor for goaltender interference. Hyman cashed in on the power play when he snuck the puck through the pads of Georgiev at 15:03, his 20th goal of the season.

Colorado challenged for goaltender interference, but the goal stood upon review.

The Avalanche carried the play at the start of the third period and it paid off. MacKinnon got the puck at his own blue line, skated through the neutral zone and split two Edmonton defenders as he stickhandled into the Oilers end. He finished the flurry by beating Skinner with a roof shot to make it 2-1 at 3:06. It was his 10th of the season.

Hunt got Colorado even five minutes later when he came off the bench, got the puck at the Edmonton blue line and beat Skinner with a shot to tie it at 8:19. It was his first goal of the season.
