Adam Fox scored twice and had an assist for the New York Rangers, who defeated the Penguins 6-1 in coach Mike Sullivan’s return to Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Sam Carrick, Adam Edstrom and Noah Laba each had two assists for the Rangers, who have won two in a row after dropping their season opener at home to the Penguins.

Igor Shesterkin made 18 saves on Saturday as Sullivan faced the Penguins, whom he coached for 10 seasons from 2015-25, winning Stanley Cup championships his first two years.

Ben Kindel scored his first NHL goal, and Arturs Silovs made 24 saves for the Penguins, who lost for the first time after winning their first two games.

Mika Zibanejad scored on a short-handed 2-on-1 to give New York a 1-0 lead at 7:40 of the first period. Carrick carried the puck it to the left circle before feeding it to Zibanejad, who quickly put it past Silovs’ blocker side.

Kindel tied it 1-1 at 3:04 of the second period. The 18-year-old, the No. 11 pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, took the puck to the right circle and fired a wrist shot short side.

Fox put the Rangers back in front three minutes later, taking a feed from Edstrom at the top of the left circle and firing it over Silovs’ right arm to make it 2-1 at 6:06.

New York increased the lead with a pair of power-play goals.

Conor Sheary directed a pass from the wall toward Will Cuylle at the crease for the deflection and a 3-1 advantage at 9:25.

Fox connected 5 seconds into another man advantage to make it 4-1 at 16:38. J.T. Miller won the faceoff to Artemi Panarin, who dished it to Fox at the blue line for a wrist shot that beat Silovs over his right arm.

Matt Rempe extended it to 5-1 when Edstrom’s shot from in front hit Rempe, who had been pushed onto Silovs, and went into the net at 5:40 of the third period.

Taylor Raddysh converted a cross-crease feed from Laba to make it 6-1 at 14:12.

Rangers defenseman Carson Soucy left the game in the second period with an upper-body injury after a collision into the boards and did not return.
