The Minnesota Vikings acquired quarterback Josh Dobbs and a 2024 seventh-round pick from the Arizona Cardinals for a 2024 sixth-round draft choice on Tuesday.
The Vikings lost quarterback Kirk Cousins when he sustained a season-ending torn right Achilles injury on Sunday.
Minnesota (4-4) plans to start rookie Jaren Hall on the road Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons (4-4), Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters Tuesday. He said Dobbs “potentially” could be active in a supportive role. O’Connell had not committed to Hall as the starter as of Monday.
Hall, a fifth-round pick out of BYU in the 2023 NFL Draft, replaced Cousins last Sunday in the win over the host Green Bay Packers and completed 3 of 4 passes for 23 yards, was sacked once and rushed twice for minus-1 yard.
In addition to Dobbs and Hall, the Vikings have Nick Mullens in their quarterback room. Mullens is on injured reserve with a back injury but will be eligible to be activated ahead of Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints.
Dobbs, 28, completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 1,569 yards with eight touchdowns and five interceptions in eight games this season. He has thrown for 2,025 yards with 10 touchdowns and eight picks in 16 games with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans and Cardinals.
Cousins, 35, was injured in the final minutes of the Vikings’ 24-10 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
He completed 23 of 31 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns before his injury. He finished his season with 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions.
