NFL News: Tyreek Hill Next Team Odds: Chiefs among WR-needy contenders

The Miami Dolphins’ release of Tyreek Hill sparked rampant speculation of a potential reunion with Kansas City — with at least one former teammate lobbying for it — but the Chiefs figure to have plenty of competition from wide receiver-needy teams.

Hill, who turns 32 on March 1, is recovering from a torn ACL and dislocated knee sustained in late September. He said in a recent stream on Twitch that his recovering is “going good,” while adding that he faces one more surgery.

With Hill unlikely to be available for offseason workouts and his Week 1 status highly uncertain, it might take a while for his free agent market to take shape. Teams will also need to evaluate whether they think the “Cheetah” is capable of recapturing his explosive speed and agility.

That hasn’t stopped the speculation about where Hill might wind up in 2026.

He spent his first six seasons in Kansas City, where he caught 479 passes for 6,630 yards and 56 touchdowns. The Chiefs finished 16th in passing yards last season, and have been unable to get consistent production — or availability — from young wide receivers Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy.

Former Chiefs teammate Chris Jones took to social media on Monday to “recruit” Hill, with the defensive lineman posting on X that “@cheetah it’s ‘time'” with a clock emoji.

But Kansas City has massive offseason issues to tackle, including Patrick Mahomes’ recovery from his own ACL surgery, the future of tight end Travis Kelce and addressing a porous running attack.

While the Chiefs were installed as the +400 favorite to land Hill this offseason by at least one sportsbook, there figures to be several other suitors.

Among them could be AFC rival Buffalo. The Bills have a new offensive-minded coach in Joe Brady and are in desperate need of weapons for quarterback Josh Allen. They have the second shortest odds at +500.

Looking at the NFC, the New York Giants also have a new head coach in John Harbaugh. Young quarterback Jaxson Dart is the centerpiece of a young nucleus off talent that also includes wide receiver Malik Nabers, who is another big name recovering from a torn ACL.

Several other contenders are high on the list as well. That includes the Denver Broncos (+700) coming off a trip to the AFC Championship Game and the San Francisco 49ers (+900), who are expected to be aggressive in overhauling their receiving corps this offseason.

Coming off their Super Bowl appearance, the Patriots (+1000) will also be seeking vertical threats to aid in the development of quarterback Drake Maye.

Hill caught 21 passes for 265 yards and one touchdown in four starts before his season-ending injury. He has 819 career receptions for 11,363 yards and 83 touchdowns in 145 games (127 starts) with the Chiefs (2016-21) and Dolphins.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Hill thanked the Dolphins for his time in Miami and vowed that he is “focused” on his return.

“Every chapter in life has taught me something. This one taught me leadership, resilience, and mostly gratitude,” Hill wrote. “The love I have for this game is unexplainable. And right now, this off season, for the first time ever, The Cheetah is all the way turned up and locked in. Focused.

“The Cheetah don’t slow down. Ever.

“So to everyone wondering what’s next… just wait on it. The Cheetah will be back…Born Again.”
