NFL News: Texans OC Bobby Slowik ‘entirely locked in’ despite coaching rumors

In high demand after the Texans dismantled the Cleveland Browns — and the NFL’s No. 1 defense — in the AFC wild-card round, Houston offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik is focused on the Baltimore Ravens, not a possible head coaching position.

“Yeah, it’s the same as last week,” the 36-year-old Slowik told reporters Wednesday ahead of Saturday’s AFC divisional round matchup at Baltimore. “Very grateful for every consideration. Grateful for the opportunities. Grateful to (head coach) DeMeco (Ryans), to (general manager) Nick (Caserio), to the Texans organization for giving me this opportunity.

“But right now, I couldn’t tell you what’s going on. I’m entirely locked in on the Ravens. I know here pretty soon, that process is going to start pretty quick, but I’m going to cross that bridge when I get to it. Right now, I’m just (focused on) Baltimore.”

Along with the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers, the Seattle Seahawks reportedly have requested to interview Slowik — in his first season as an offensive coordinator — for their head coaching vacancy.

A feather in Slowik’s cap has been the play of rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, who threw 23 touchdowns and only five interceptions in helping guide Houston to the AFC South title.

“Bobby did a great job today, like he always does,” Ryans said after Saturday’s 45-14 blowout of the Browns. “His job is to call the plays. When he call, we ball. He knew to mix it up a little bit. We wanted to throw the ball early just to set the tone that we were going to not shy away from anything.”

Slowik, who began his coaching career under head coach Mike Shanahan in Washington in 2011 as a defensive assistant, later moved on to the San Francisco 49ers to join head coach Kyle Shanahan’s staff. With the 49ers, Slowik served a number of roles, including offensive assistant and passing game coordinator.
