NFL News: Season of Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (concussion) parked in pit row

Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, ending his season after just eight appearances.

Rice missed the first six games due to a suspension and will miss the last three with a concussion. He sat out last week’s loss to the Tennessee Titans due to the injury that led him to the IR.

Rice, 25, caught 53 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs (6-9) fashioned a 3-5 record in his appearances. He owns 156 receptions for 1,797 yards and 14 scores in 28 regular-season games (20 starts) over three seasons with Kansas City. He also caught six passes for 39 yards when Kansas City defeated San Francisco in overtime to capture Super Bowl 58.

Rice’s suspension was due to violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, which stemmed from his role in a multi-car crash on a Dallas freeway in March 2024 that left multiple people injured.

Earlier this year, Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges. He received deferred adjudication on a 30-day jail sentence, and the case will be dismissed if he complies with the terms of his probation.

The Chiefs also placed receiver Tyquan Thornton (concussion) and cornerbacks Trent McDuffie (knee) and Jaylen Watson (groin) on IR on Wednesday, one day before they host the Denver Broncos.

Tight end Jake Briningstool (hamstring) also was ruled out while tackle Jaylon Moore (knee) and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (illness) are questionable.

Fourth-year quarterback Chris Oladokun, who threw his first NFL passes last week, will make his first start against Denver with Patrick Mahomes (ACL) and Gardner Minshew (lower leg) out for the season.
