NFL News: Reports: Jets DT Quinnen Williams won’t report without deal

While the Jets leave the lights on for Aaron Rodgers, All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams plans to go dark until the team addresses his contract.

Williams, 25, is scheduled to earn $9.95 million in 2023 playing on a fifth-year option but said at the end of the regular season he wants a long-term deal before the start of the offseason program.

That date is today, and Williams is not planning to attend the voluntary portion of workouts with teammates, ESPN and NFL Network reported.

“Everybody knows I’m a team guy. Everybody knows that I believe in the team and want to put the team first and different things like that, but I do want to get a contract done before the offseason program,” Williams said in January. “I feel like I deserve to get a contract done before the offseason program just because I did everything right on the field, everything right off the field, and just having the organization behind me just like I’m behind them to show that they really support me and different things like that is an amazing thing for me. I just want to be compensated for what I am.”

General manager Joe Douglas said at the Scouting Combine in February that the team “loves Quinnen, we want him here.”

Williams was the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and has 25 sacks, 163 tackles and 29 tackles for loss in four seasons.

He set a career high with 12 sacks in 2022.
