NFL News: Report: Raiders looking to trade benched QB Derek Carr

The Las Vegas Raiders will attempt to trade benched quarterback Derek Carr, NFL Network reported Sunday.

Coach Josh McDaniels announced this week that Jarrett Stidham will start the final two games of the season.

Carr, 31, has a no-trade clause in the three-year, $121.5 million extension he signed in April.

His $32.9 million base salary for 2023 and $7.5 million of his 2024 salary become guaranteed if he is still on the roster on Feb. 15, written in his contract as “three days after the Super Bowl.”

If the Raiders cannot find a trade partner by then, they could release him to avoid being on the hook for more than $40 million in guaranteed money. It would cost them about $5 million in dead cap space.

Carr has stepped away — with permission — from the team to avoid being a distraction, multiple outlets reported.

He has an NFL-leading 14 interceptions, including nine in his past five games. He was picked off three times in last weekend’s 13-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Carr has completed 60.8 percent of his passes for 3,522 yards and 24 touchdowns in 15 games this season. He is the franchise’s all-time leader in passing yards (35,222) and touchdowns (217).
