The Washington Commanders reportedly traded cornerback William Jackson III to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday, just before they were set to release him.

The Commanders will receive a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2025 in exchange for Jackson and a conditional seventh-round selection in that same draft, multiple outlets reported.

Washington signed Jackson to a three-year, $40.5 million contract in March 2021, but the 30-year-old hadn’t played since Week 5 after sustaining a back injury. He has 16 tackles and two passes defensed in four starts this season.

Jackson reportedly had made it known to the Commanders front office that he wanted a fresh start elsewhere.

Jackson has five career interceptions and 51 passes defensed in 75 games (64 starts) with the Cincinnati Bengals (2017-20) and Commanders. He was selected No. 24 overall by the Bengals in the 2016 draft.
