The Los Angeles Chargers are bringing back edge rusher Khalil Mack with a one-year deal for a fully guaranteed $18 million, signing veteran cornerback Donte Jackson to a two-year contract and parting with running back Gus Edwards, according to multiple reports.
Mack, who turned 34 last month, made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons with the Chargers. He’s missed only one game in that span (2022-24) while recording 31 sacks and 49 quarterback hits in 50 starts.
Jackson, 29, is coming off his first and only season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who acquired him as part of the Diontae Johnson trade with the Carolina Panthers ahead of the 2024 season. He found success with the Steelers, notching a career-best five interceptions and a fumble recovery before missing the last three games of the season due to back issues.
Jackson’s deal is reportedly worth $13 million.
Edwards, 29, was released to save more than $3 million against the 2025 salary cap. Signed as a free agent in 2024, Edwards was the primary backup to J.K. Dobbins and rushed for 365 yards and four touchdowns. He signed a two-year deal with the Chargers following a career year with the Ravens in 2023 (13 touchdowns, 990 total yards from scrimmage).
A nine-time Pro Bowl selection, three-time first-team All-Pro and the 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Mack finished the 2024 campaign ranked seventh among active NFL players with 107.5 career sacks.
He has registered 185 QB hits, 630 tackles, 32 forced fumbles, 13 fumble recoveries and three interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) in 167 games (166 starts) with the then-Oakland Raiders (2014-17), Chicago Bears (2018-21) and Chargers.
The Raiders drafted Mack with the No. 5 overall pick in 2014.
Jackson spent the first six seasons of his career with the Panthers, who drafted him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has 19 interceptions and 341 tackles in 95 games (91 starts) for the Panthers and Steelers.
