NFL News: Ravens sign Brett Hundley; Lamar Jackson unlikely Sunday

The Baltimore Ravens signed veteran quarterback Brett Hundley to their practice squad on Monday in the aftermath of starter Lamar Jackson’s knee injury.

Hundley’s agent confirmed the move on social media.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Monday that Jackson is week to week and “less likely” to play this week against Pittsburgh “but not impossible.”

“After that it’ll become more and more likely” that Jackson returns, Harbaugh said, adding that Jackson underwent an MRI.

Jackson left Sunday’s game against Denver in the first quarter with a sprained knee. Harbaugh said after the game that Jackson’s injury is not season-ending but will be a “number of days to weeks.”

On the final play of the first quarter, Jackson took a 6-yard loss when he was sacked by Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper. Jackson then went to the medical tent. Before the sack, Jackson completed 3 of 4 passes for 11 yards and also gained 9 yards on his only carry.

The Ravens trailed 3-0 when Jackson exited.

Tyler Huntley relieved Jackson as he did for the final four games of the 2021 season, when Jackson was sidelined with an ankle injury.

Huntley threw for 187 yards and an interception in the 10-9 win over the Broncos. He was the Ravens’ leading rusher, carrying 10 times for 41 yards, including the game-winning touchdown on a 2-yard run with 28 seconds left.

Hundley, 29, is 3-6 lifetime as a starter, stepping in for Green Bay for nine starts in 2017. He’s thrown for 1,902 yards and nine touchdowns against 13 interceptions in 18 career games, including the nine starts. He spent time with Baltimore over the summer.

Huntley has appeared in 11 career games, including the four starts from 2021, and has thrown for 1,283 yards with no TDs and an interception.

The Ravens also officially added DeSean Jackson to their 53-man roster, agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN.

The Ravens signed the veteran receiver to their practice squad in October, and they’ve since elevated him to their gameday roster three times. Had they called him up a fourth time, they would have had to sign him to the 53-man roster or release him altogether.

DeSean Jackson, 36, played in Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints, Week 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Sunday against the Broncos. He has totaled five receptions for 100 yards, highlighted by a two-catch, 74-yard game against Jacksonville.

The Ravens (8-4) visit the rival Steelers (5-7) on Sunday.
