NFL News: Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins tears Achilles, done for season

Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in the team’s Week 1 win over the visiting Houston Texans.

Dobbins left the field with an announced ankle injury with the Ravens controlling the game in the third quarter over the Houston Texans. Baltimore coach John Harbaugh confirmed the diagnosis after the game.

Dobbins had eight carries for 22 yards and a touchdown, plus two receptions for 15 yards before exiting. He was replaced by Justice Hill and Gus Edwards as Baltimore went on to win 25-9.

“Just kind of crestfallen for him,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “We will put our arms around him, and he’ll get into rehab, and he will be back (next season). But yeah, it’s really hard for him.”

Injuries have defined Dobbins’ NFL career. He was on the physically unable to perform list for most of training camp, practicing for the first time Aug. 15.

The 55th overall pick out of Ohio State in 2020, Dobbins missed the entire 2021 season with a torn ACL. He played four games in 2022 before requiring arthroscopic knee surgery and was unavailable until Week 14.

“That’s very unfortunate,” Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said of Dobbins’ setback. “I feel like J.K. been busting his behind to get back on that field and just show … what he’s capable of and to help us out along the way. I spoke highly of him this offseason, just letting everybody know we really need him.”

Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley (knee), center Tyler Linderbaum (ankle) and safety Marcus Williams (shoulder) will undergo MRIs, Harbaugh said.
