Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is out, but his season is not over.
Jackson sprained his left knee in the first quarter Sunday against the Denver Broncos, but Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said the injury is not season-ending.
“It’s a knee, but it’s not a season-ending type of knee (injury),” Harbaugh said. “It’s going to be a number of days to weeks. We’ll see. We’ll see if he can go back this week. If not, it will be sometime after that shortly.”
Harbaugh said he will know more Monday or Wednesday when the results of further testing become available through the medical staff.
On the final play of the first quarter, Jackson took a 6-yard loss when he was sacked by Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper, moving Baltimore back to its own 27-yard line. Jackson then headed for the medical tent and was replaced by Tyler Huntley, who promptly completed an 11-yard pass to Devin Duvernay.
Before the sack, Jackson completed three of four passes for 11 yards and also gained nine yards on his only carry. He entered Sunday with 17 passing touchdowns and three rushing scores while throwing for 2,231 yards and rushing for 755.
The Ravens trailed 3-0 when Jackson exited.
Huntley relieved Jackson as he did for the final four games of the 2021 season, when Jackson was sidelined with an ankle injury.
Against Denver, Huntley completed 27 of 32 passes for 187 yards and had 10 carries for 41 yards, including the game-winning touchdown on a 2-yard run with 28 seconds left.
“We’ll take that win,” Ravens tight end Mark Andrews said. “No matter how it comes.”
