Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay arrived in Arizona early Sunday for an afternoon game against the Cardinals after traveling separate from the team because of an illness.

McVay intended to coach the team Sunday, although it was not known if he would be on the sideline or work from the press box area.

The Rams (9-3) are tied for the best record in the NFC with the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks. They entered Sunday as the conference’s No. 2 playoff seed.

The Rams arrived in the Phoenix area on Saturday in advance of Sunday’s game at Glendale, Ariz. McVay departed from the Los Angeles area early Sunday morning, a team spokesperson said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

McVay, 39, is 144-89 over his nine seasons coaching the Rams. His team won Super Bowl LVI with a 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 2017 AP NFL Coach of the Year, McVay owns an 8-5 career playoff record and led the Rams to another NFC title and Super Bowl appearance in the 2018 season.
