NFL News: Lions RB Mohamed Ibrahim has immediate surgery for dislocated hip

Detroit running back Mohamed Ibrahim, injured while returning a kickoff against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, underwent surgery for a dislocated hip shortly after getting to a hospital, Lions coach Dan Campbell said after the game.

“Mo’s in the hospital and he’s having surgery right now. Sounds like he’ll be OK, but he’s going to stay (in Baltimore) overnight. He’s tough. I hate that for him,” Campbell told reporters.

Ibrahim, whom the Lions signed to their practice squad earlier this week, was making his NFL debut when he returned a third-quarter kickoff 22 yards to the Detroit 36-yard line. He was tackled by Ronald Darby in the midsection and stayed on the ground until he was carted off.

The running back went undrafted after starring for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, rushing for 4,668 yards and 53 touchdowns in 41 games over five seasons.

The Lions signed Ibrahim to a free-agent contract just after the draft and guaranteed him $100,000. He was waived after getting injured in the first preseason game and reached a settlement with the team.

The team brought him back amid a series of injuries to its running backs. Starter David Montgomery is out with a rib injury, Zonovan Knight (shoulder) is gone for the season and Jahmyr Gibbs and Craig Reynolds played Sunday despite nursing or just returning from injuries.

Ibrahim also sustained a nasty Achilles injury in the season opener for Minnesota in 2021 and missed the rest of the campaign.

The Ravens thrashed the Lions 38-6, leaving each team at 5-2.
