NFL News: Jets QB Aaron Rodgers running on treadmill, encouraged by rehab

Aaron Rodgers shared positive news about his efforts to recover from a torn Achilles tendon on “The Pat McAfee Show” Tuesday.

“I’m excited about where I’m at in my rehab and things are progressing as quickly as I thought they would once I’ve been able to jog on a treadmill,” Rodgers said. “Excited about getting back to the team and seeing where I’m at.”

Rodgers, who turns 40 on Dec. 2, reportedly is targeting a mid-December return, but he did not offer a specific timeline for his return. He sustained the injury in the first quarter of the Jets’ opener against the Buffalo Bills.

Also during the show, Rodgers pointed out recent teams with 4-6 records, like the Jets, that came back to make deep runs in the playoffs — the Rodgers-led 2016 Green Bay Packers, who ultimately won eight straight games and two playoff rounds before losing to the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship game, and the 2009 New York Jets, who finished 9-7 before losing in the AFC Championship to the Indianapolis Colts.

“So listen, the season is definitely not over, it’s not dead. There’s a lot left to play for,” Rodgers said.

The Jets are in third place in the AFC East. They benched quarterback Zach Wilson Monday and will start veteran Tim Boyle against the Miami Dolphins (7-3) on Friday.
