NFL News: Jets GM to Haason Reddick: ‘Get here and then let’s talk’

New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas was quite clear on Thursday while addressing the team’s view of the ongoing holdout of edge rusher Haason Reddick.

“The ball’s in their court and whenever he’s ready to come here, again, we can’t wait to have him,” Douglas said of Reddick, who was acquired by the Jets in a March trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Reddick is due to make $14.25 million in the final season of his three-year, $45 million contract and is looking for a long-term deal.

Douglas said he hasn’t spoken to Reddick since April 1, when the latter visited the Jets’ facility. Douglas noted that he also hasn’t had any recent talks with Reddick’s representation “but the phone lines are open.”

Douglas said he’s not interested in veering from the norm in regard to contract negotiations once Reddick reports to the Jets, for fear of setting a precedent.

“I think we’ve been clear from the outset of, ‘Hey let’s get here and then let’s talk,'” Douglas said. “… I don’t have the benefit of just dealing with one person and one agent. A lot of decisions that you make will reverberate through the locker room and have a ripple effect in the locker room. So to me, that is and will always be the most important thing.”

Reddick, who turns 30 next month, has recorded 50.5 sacks over the past four seasons.

A first-round pick (13th overall) by Arizona in 2017, Reddick is a two-time Pro Bowl selection with 410 tackles, 99 quarterback hits, 58 sacks and 16 forced fumbles in 114 games (81 starts) with the Cardinals (2017-20), Panthers (2021) and Eagles.
