The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free agent kicker Joey Slye to a one-year deal, the team announced on Monday.
The former Washington kicker swaps places with Brandon McManus, who signed with the Commanders last week. The Jaguars earlier this offseason signed Riley Patterson, who kicked for the team in 2022.
Slye, 27, converted 19 of 24 field goals and 32 of 35 extra points in 17 games for the Commanders last season.
He has made 82.3 percent of his field goals and just 88.5 percent of his PATs across five seasons with four teams.
McManus, 32, made 30 of 37 field goals and all 35 of his extra points in 17 games for the Jaguars in 2023.
Jacksonville also signed outside linebacker Trevis Gipson, 26, on Monday. The unrestricted free agent played in 2023 for the Tennessee Titans and made six tackles in eight games (zero starts).
The Chicago Bears selected Gipson in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Tulsa. He has 81 career tackles with 11 sacks in 48 games (19 starts) for the Bears (2020-22) and Titans.
Defensive tackle Arik Armstead, who signed with Jacksonville on Friday, said Monday that he recently had successful knee surgery on his meniscus.
“I’ll be back very soon and I’m excited about that,” Armstead said. “A very good road to recovery. Plan on being back to playing football full time very soon when my team needs me.”
The San Francisco 49ers had released Armstead after failing to agree on a restructured contract. Armstead, 30, had five sacks and 27 tackles in 12 games (all starts) last season, his ninth with San Francisco after he was selected with the No. 17 pick in the 2015 draft out of Oregon.
In 116 career games (97 starts), Armstead has recorded 33.5 sacks, 302 tackles and three forced fumbles.
