New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart sustained a concussion in the 24-20 loss to the host Chicago Bears on Sunday.
“Yeah, it’s unfortunate,” coach Brian Daboll said. “Unfortunately, he got hurt.”
Dart’s head hit the ground hard after a fumble that the Bears recovered after a 7-yard gain with 5:14 left in the third quarter. He moved slowly to the sideline and walked behind the team bench area.
He returned for two plays on the next drive before going into the blue medical tent between quarters and eventually went to the locker room with team medical personnel to be checked for a concussion.
“So, with Dart, it was going back out on the field, just didn’t seem right. So called the trainers over and said, ‘Let’s get him out and make sure he gets looked at,’ ” Daboll said. “So, he went in and got looked at, evaluated for concussion.”
Russell Wilson entered the game to start the fourth quarter with the Giants ahead 17-10. Dart was officially ruled out after New York went up 20-10 with 10:19 remaining.
Dart finished 19 of 29 for 242 yards but was sacked twice. He also had six carries for 66 yards, including touchdown runs of 3 and 24 yards. With the first score, he became the first quarterback in NFL history with a touchdown run in five consecutive games, breaking a tie with Cam Newton (2011).
Wilson finished 3 of 7 for 45 yards and was sacked twice. He also had two carries for 12 yards.
The Giants (2-8), who have lost four straight, host the Green Bay Packers (5-2-1) next Sunday. Daboll did not indicate if Wilson would start if Dart cannot play.
