NFL News: Dolphins patient with De’Von Achane, rule out Raheem Mostert

The Miami Dolphins will take a wait-and-see approach with respect to whether running back De’Von Achane plays in Thursday’s game against the visiting Buffalo Bills.

Achane is dealing with an ankle injury after touching the ball 17 times in Miami’s 20-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. He had 10 carries for 24 yards and a touchdown to go along with seven catches for 76 yards.

“We’ll see how it plays out,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday of Achane, who has been held out of practice this week.

Running back Raheem Mostert, however, has been ruled out for Thursday’s contest after sustaining a chest injury in the season opener. Mostert gained 19 yards from scrimmage prior to the injury.

“His injury, not many people play with. … He showed his toughness,” McDaniel said.

Jeff Wilson Jr. and fourth-round draft pick Jaylen Wright likely will see playing time should Achane sit out on Thursday.

Wilson had five carries for 26 yards on Sunday. Wright was ruled inactive for that game.

For the Bills, quarterback Josh Allen has gotten medical clearance to play, despite banging up his left hand in Sunday’s season opener against the Arizona Cardinals.

“He’s so physically and mentally tough,” Buffalo coach Sean McDermott said of Allen. “Trainers have done a nice job.”

McDermott said cornerback Taron Johnson (forearm) and defensive end Dawuane Smoot (toe) have been ruled out. Defensive end Javon Solomon was listed as doubtful on Wednesday’s injury report.

Johnson played just seven snaps against the Cardinals. A fourth-round draft pick by the Bills in 2018, Johnson has appeared in 89 games (68 starts) and has 451 tackles, seven sacks and four interceptions.

Smoot signed as a free agent with the Bills in May after seven seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He did not play in Week 1.
