The opening game of the 2025 NFL season between the host Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys was hit with a delay when lightning strikes were detected in the vicinity of the stadium Thursday night.
The delay will last a half hour after the last strike within a certain radius of the stadium.
The delay came just before 10:30 p.m. ET, with 4:44 remaining in the third quarter. The Eagles, who led 24-20, had just recovered a fumble by Cowboys running back Miles Sanders in the red zone.
The game was already a wild affair that saw Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter spit on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and get ejected before the first play from scrimmage.
Every possession by either side had ended in a score before Sanders’ fumble. Philadelphia led 21-20 at halftime and kicker Jake Elliott nailed a 58-yarder midway through the third quarter.
