The Los Angeles Chargers fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and quarterbacks coach Shane Day on Tuesday.

The move come three days after the Chargers squandered a 27-point lead in a 31-30 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in an AFC wild-card game. The comeback loss serves as the third-largest in NFL postseason history.

Lombardi and Day were among the initial staff members hired by head coach Brandon Staley in 2021.

The Chargers’ passing offense — led by star Justin Herbert — ranked third in the NFL (269.6 yards per game), the total offense was ninth (359.3), and the team finished 13th in points (23.0) this season.

Los Angeles also ranked fourth in interception rate, sixth in sacks per attempt, seventh in first downs per game, eighth in third down possession and ninth in time of possession.

The running game was a different matter, likely due in part to injuries along the offensive line. It finished 30th while averaging just 89.6 yards per game.

Lombardi, 51, previously served as a defensive assistant with the Atlanta Falcons (2006), an offensive assistant/quarterbacks coach with the New Orleans Saints (2007-13, 2016-20), and offensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions (2014-15).

Day, 48, previously served as an assistant coach for the San Francisco 49ers (2007-09, 2019-20), Chicago Bears (2010-11), Washington franchise (2014-15) and Miami Dolphins (2016-18).
