NFL News: Cardinals plan on QB Kyler Murray to return vs. Cowboys

The Arizona Cardinals are planning for Kyler Murray to return from a foot injury and start Monday night’s game against the host Dallas Cowboys.

Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon simply said “yeah” when asked Thursday whether Murray would be the starting quarterback. He told reporters that the plan for Murray is this: “Get him fully healthy, play.”

Murray has missed the past two games since injuring the foot Oct. 5 during a 22-21 home loss to the Tennessee Titans. He was listed as a limited participant on the injury report released after Thursday’s practice.

The Cardinals (2-5) are coming off a bye and feel urgency to post a victory after losing their last five games by a combined 13 points. Arizona lost both games that Murray missed while Jacoby Brissett served as the starting quarterback.

“We’ve got to do everything we can do to try to win a game,” Gannon said.

Murray, 28, has completed 68.3% of his passes for 962 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions in five starts this season. The two-time Pro Bowl selection has rushed for 173 yards and one score.

Brissett, 32, threw two touchdown passes in each of his two starts. He passed for 320 yards and was intercepted once in a 31-27 loss to the host Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 12 and had 279 yards in a 27-23 home setback to the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 19.

Gannon said practice this week has been spirited coming off the bye.

“You start playing games and the train’s rolling, I think, for everybody,” Gannon said. “They’re rested and it looks a little bit different, so it was very beneficial.”
