The Cleveland Browns terminated the contract of long-snapper Charley Hughlett, the team’s second-longest tenured player, on Monday.

Hughlett, 34, had two years left on the four-year, $5.7 million contract extension he signed in October 2022. He was limited to five games last season due to a rib injury.

Overall, his 152 games played rank 15th all-time for the Browns.

“This is a bittersweet transaction for our organization because we hate separating from a valued and long-tenured player for our team,” general manager Andrew Berry said in a team statement. “However, it also gives us the opportunity to express sincere gratitude and appreciation for all Charley has done for the Browns on and off the field. Charley’s career is a story of perseverance, work ethic and self-belief. He’s a special individual who we will welcome home as a Cleveland Brown after his career is complete.”

After going undrafted out of UCF in 2012, Hughlett had brief stints with the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs before signing with the Browns in late 2014. His only NFL action came with Cleveland.

The only other Browns player with more years in Cleveland is left guard Joel Bitonio, who was a second-round draft pick by the team in 2014.
