Baker Mayfield will be the starting quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams in Week 15 with John Wolford sidelined with a neck injury.
The Rams play at Green Bay on Monday night.
Mayfield is coming off a stupendous game last week, in which he rallied the Rams to a fourth-quarter victory over Las Vegas despite being claimed by the Rams just two days earlier. Mayfield’s 23-yard touchdown pass to Van Jefferson with 10 seconds left Thursday night capped an improbable comeback as the Rams stunned Raiders 17-16.
Mayfield, who was picked up off the waiver wire from the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday, completed 5 of 6 passes for 80 yards on the final drive.
Mayfield replaced the starter Wolford on the Rams’ second possession and completed 22 of 35 passes for 230 yards as they ended a six-game losing streak. Mayfield got in one practice with the team and two 10-play team drills ahead of the game.
“I was really impressed,” coach Sean McVay said of Mayfield after the game. “I don’t know if I would say surprised, because I’ve always been a fan of the things that he was capable of, but to say that I expected this, certainly exceeded our expectations. But it was a lot of fun watching him go to work tonight.”
McVay said Friday he expected Mayfield to be the team’s starter for the final four games of the season.
The Rams are 4-9 and the current 15th seed in the NFC.
