Texas police are searching for the brother of former NFL cornerback Aqib Talib in connection with a fatal shooting at a youth football game.

A city official in Lancaster, Texas, identified the suspected shooter as Yaqub Salik Talib, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Multiple reports identified the victim as Mike Hickmon, coach of the DEA Dragons youth team. The Dallas County medical examiner’s office confirmed that a Michael Hickmon, 43, died at a hospital Saturday night.

A representative from the Dragons told reporters that the dispute began when Hickmon attempted to pick up a football and someone kicked it away.

Dallas TV station WFAA said the Talib brothers are coaches for the North Dallas United Bobcats youth team.

An attorney for Aqib Talib told TMZ in a statement that the 12-year NFL veteran was present during the shooting and “is very distraught and devastated over this terrible loss.”

“He would like to convey his condolences to the family of the victim and to everyone who witnessed this unfortunate tragedy,” read the statement.

Aqib Talib was a five-time Pro Bowl selection who intercepted 35 passes in 148 games from 2008-19 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams. He won Super Bowl 50 with Denver and retired in 2020.

Last month, Amazon added Talib as a contributor to the pregame, halftime and postgame team for its 2022 “Thursday Night Football” package.
