Nets beat Wizards to snap six-game losing streak

Jalen Wilson and Tyrese Martin scored 20 points apiece as the visiting Brooklyn Nets snapped a six-game losing streak with a 115-112 win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday night.

Drew Timme had a career-high 19 points and Cameron Johnson had 18 points and nine rebounds for Brooklyn (24-51), which rallied from a 17-point deficit in the second quarter.

Keon Johnson matched his career high with five 3-pointers and scored 15 points, and Noah Clowney added 13 points for the Nets.

After Martin hit a 3-pointer to give the Nets a 111-107 lead with 1:00 left, the Wizards moved ahead 112-111 on Colby Jones’ basket and AJ Johnson’s 3-pointer with 23 seconds remaining.

Brooklyn regained the lead on Timme’s layup with 8.4 seconds left, and Wilson made two free throws following a Washington turnover. The Nets sealed the victory after Jones missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Johnson scored 14 of his career-high 20 points in the fourth quarter for Washington (16-58), which has lost seven of its last eight games. Jones also scored 20, Jaylen Martin added 13, Alex Sarr and Jordan Poole had 12 apiece, and Bub Carrington finished with 10.

Washington led 28-23 at the end of the first quarter after holding the Nets to 29.6 percent shooting from the field.

The Wizards extended their lead to 52-35 on Justin Champagnie’s trey with 4:13 left in the second quarter. Brooklyn answered with three straight 3-pointers and cut the deficit to 59-51 at the half.

After Brooklyn took a 63-61 lead on Martin’s dunk with 7:53 left in the third quarter, Poole hit the 1,000th 3-pointer of his career on the Wizards’ next possession.

Washington held an 85-82 advantage at the end of the third period, but struggled to draw clear from the Nets.

Brooklyn led 108-99 with 2:32 remaining before Jones capped an 8-0 run with two free throws to cut the lead to one with 1:16 left.

Timme played 29 minutes and was 9-of-14 shooting with six rebounds and three assists in his second career game for Brooklyn, which shot 44.3 percent from the field and 39.1 percent (18 of 46) from 3-point range.
