It was reported that Nelsan Ellis, best known for playing Lafayette on True Blood, has sadly died at the young age of 39.
Ellis brought life to a colorful character who might have turned into a caricature in the hands of a lesser actor. Instead, Lafayette turned out to be one of the most likable characters on the show. He brought on wit, style and sexuality. At 39, he was just getting started in what would have been a long career.
He was also in The Help, Secretariat, The Butler and Get On Up among others. He will be missed.
Nelsan Ellis was making a movie about his sister who was shot to death by her abusive boyfriend, he wanted people to talk about domestic violence and was cool as shit. RIP Nelsan Ellis you’re a hero, your heart was full of love and openness and it broke on you
