Sam Griesel scored a game-high 16 points to lead five Nebraska players in double figures as the Cornhuskers earned a 75-65 victory over Queens University of Charlotte on Tuesday in Lincoln, Neb.
Griesel shot 6 of 9 from the field and had three rebounds and three assists, while teammate Keisei Tominaga added 15 points by shooting 6 of 12 from the field, including 3 of 7 from 3-point range.
Nebraska’s Derrick Walker chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and six assists, with Juwan Gray finishing with 11 points and seven rebounds. Emmanuel Bandoumel had 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Cornhuskers (7-6), who ended a three-game losing streak, shot 31 of 59 (52.5 percent) from the field, including 6 of 23 (26.1 percent) from 3-point range. Nebraska outrebounded Queens 41-35.
Queens (9-3), which had its four-game winning streak snapped, was led by Kenny Dye, who had 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. AJ McKee added 13 points and five rebounds, Quan McCluney finished with 10 points and Chris Ashby had nine points. Gavin Rains pulled down a game-high 11 boards.
The Royals shot 22 of 65 (33.8 percent) from the field, including 7 of 29 (24.1 percent) from beyond the arc.
Queens trailed by 17 at halftime but pulled within 62-53 on McKee’s jumper with 9:21 remaining. The Cornhuskers countered with a 9-3 run to take a 71-56 lead on Gray’s layup with 5:58 to go.
The Cornhuskers scored the game’s first 11 points in less than four minutes en route to taking a 43-26 lead into halftime.
Walker scored 10 points and Griesel had nine in the first 20 minutes for Nebraska, which shot 18 of 32 (56.3 percent) from the field, including 5 of 15 (33.3 percent) from beyond the arc.
Queens was led by McCluney’s eight first-half points, while McKee added six.
The Royals shot 9 of 35 (25.7 percent) from the field before the break, including 4 of 16 (25 percent) from long distance.
