Vanderbilt signed football coach Clark Lea to a contract extension on Monday.

While the university didn’t announce contract length or financial terms, ESPN reported that it’s a three-year deal that runs through the 2029 season.

Lea, 41, is set to enter his third season after replacing Derek Mason in December 2020.

Lea is 7-17 in two seasons, but he did lead the Commodores to wins over Kentucky and Florida at the end of the 2022 campaign.

“I’m thrilled with our football program’s development on and off of the field under Clark Lea’s leadership,” Vanderbilt athletics director Candice Storey Lee said in a news release. “He is relentless in his commitment to build a foundation that yields sustainable success. He approaches each day with the pride of an alumnus who personally understands the opportunity that lies before us, and the determination of a coach and leader who has the vision to fulfill it.”

Lea was a semifinalist for the Broyles Award, presented to the nation’s top assistant coach, in 2020 while at Notre Dame. He is a 2004 graduate of Vanderbilt and also served as an assistant coach at Bowling Green, South Dakota, Syracuse, UCLA and Wake Forest.

The Commodores open the season at home vs. Hawaii on Aug. 26.
