Michigan running back CJ Stokes became the first Wolverines player this season to enter his name into the transfer portal.
Stokes, who will have three years of eligibility remaining, announced his decision on X on Monday morning. He had only four carries for eight yards in two games this season.
“I’d like to not only thank Coach Harbaugh and Coach (Mike) Hart, but the whole athletic and academic staff for making by 2 years in Ann Arbor enjoyable,” Stokes wrote. “I was awarded the opportunity of a lifetime to attend the great university and I am forever grateful.
“With that being said, I’d like to announce I’ll be entering the transfer portal.”
Stokes rushed for 273 yards on 55 carries with one touchdown as a true freshman in 2022. However, he saw a very limited workload in a crowded backfield led by Blake Corum along with Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings.
Corum and Edwards are expected to depart for the NFL, but Michigan also has freshmen Benjamin Hall and Cole Cabana along with Leon Franklin and Tavierre Dunlap. Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh could also seek additional backfield help through the transfer portal.
–Michigan State linebacker Jacoby Windmon has entered his name into the transfer portal and will have one year of eligibility remaining as a fifth-year senior.
Windmon joined the Spartans from UNLV following the 2021 season and recorded 49 tackles, including 10.5 tackles loss, along with 5.5 sacks last year. That was despite missing the final four games due to a suspension for his role in a post-game altercation with Michigan players.
Windmon had 15 tackles and a sack before missing the final nine games of this season due to a reported pectoral injury, allowing him to take a redshirt year. Windmon has 233 career tackles in 41 games between his time at UNLV and Michigan State.
–Former Georgia State running back Marcus Carroll announced he will transfer to Missouri after rushing for 1,350 yards and 13 touchdowns on 274 carries this season. A former three-star recruit, Carroll will help fill the void created by departing seniors Cody Schrader and Nathaniel Peat.
–Tennessee cornerback Doneiko Slaughter announced Sunday night that he will leave the program after playing in 43 games over the past four years. He has 87 career tackles, including 32 this season despite missing two games.
“Expressing my gratitude for the tremendous support, development and love I’ve experienced during my time at the University of Tennessee,” Slaughter posted on X. “The relationships I’ve built with my brothers and staff have been invaluable, contributing significantly to my growth as both an athlete and individual. The support from Volnation has made this university feel like a home.
“However, after careful consideration, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal. This decision is about my personal growth and aspirations and in no way diminishes the gratitude and love I feel for the University of Tennessee. I am sincerely thankful for the opportunities and memories here.”
–Boise State multi-purpose quarterback Taylen Green decided on Arkansas, which recently hired Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator.
The 6-foot-6 Green passed for 1,752 yards and 11 touchdowns against nine interceptions for the Broncos last season. He rushed for 434 yards and nine touchdowns.
“It went well, just talking ball,” Green told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette of his visit, which included breaking down film with Petrino. “His knowledge and his wisdom of the game, you see it. You see it from the first five minutes, and you just learn the intricate details of everything — how you can step up your game. … You could tell the experience and the evidence of him coaching so many quarterbacks. I like it.”
–Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims departed the program after one season at the school to enter the portal. He was the starting quarterback at the outset of the season before turnover issues and an ankle injury derailed his campaign.
Sims threw six interceptions in just 47 pass attempts for Nebraska. He passed for 282 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 189 yards and one touchdown.
Sims previously played three seasons at Georgia Tech before transferring prior to last season. He committed 31 turnovers in three seasons with the Yellow Jackets (23 interceptions, eight fumbles) while passing for 4,464 yards and 30 touchdowns and rushing for 1,152 yards and 11 scores.
–Washington backup quarterback Dylan Morris is in the portal as a graduate transfer.
Huskies offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb told KJR FM that Morris will remain with the team as long as they play in the College Football Playoff. Washington is the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 Texas in the Sugar Bowl Jan. 1.
Morris was the Huskies’ starter in 2020 and 2021 before Michael Penix Jr. transferred from Indiana. Penix went on to be a Heisman Trophy finalist this season.
Morris has thrown for 3,721 yards, 20 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in his four years at Washington.
–North Texas quarterback Chandler Rogers committed to transfer to Cal.
In his first season at North Texas after two at UL-Monroe, Rogers racked up 3,382 yards and 29 touchdowns against just five interceptions. He ranks ninth in Division I in passing touchdowns and 14th in yardage.
He has racked up 7,096 yards with 53 touchdowns and 15 picks in his three college seasons.
–Kansas State defensive back Kobe Savage entered the transfer portal. In two seasons with the Wildcats, he has 115 tackles and six interceptions (three in each season).
