NCAAF News: Report: Georgia’s Trevor Etienne out for opener

Running back Trevor Etienne won’t play Saturday for Georgia, a punishment for his arrest on DUI and other driving charges in March, ESPN reported.

The No. 1 Bulldogs will face No. 14 Clemson in Atlanta.

Etienne, a January transfer from Florida, agreed to a plea deal in July. The DUI charge was dropped, and he entered a no contest plea to reckless driving and pleaded guilty to three lesser misdemeanor charges.

He was sentenced to 12 months of probation and ordered to pay an $852 fine, perform 40 hours of community service and take part in an alcohol-risk reduction program.

At Florida, Etienne — the younger brother of Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne — rushed for 14 touchdowns and 1,472 yards on 249 carries in two seasons.

Coach Kirby Smart said Monday he didn’t intend to disclose what discipline Etienne would face.

“I don’t really talk about all the other stuff, with regards to suspensions, for any of our players,” Smart told reporters.

The Bulldogs will be limited at the position against Clemson with the absence of Roderick Robinson II, who is recovering from surgery for turf toe.

Branson Robinson and Nate Frazier are expected to shoulder the load. Branson Robinson missed the 2023 season with a knee injury.
