North Carolina State is declining to place a timetable on the return of standout quarterback Devin Leary from an injury to his passing shoulder.

Leary was injured during the third quarter of Saturday’s 19-17 home win over Florida State.

After the game, Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren said X-rays came back clean. But Monday, he wasn’t as open about the situation.

“It’s a rehabbable injury,” Doeren told reporters. “It’s a day-to-day thing. … There’s no timeline. It could be this week or it could be six weeks.”

Doeren also told reporters that future questions about Leary’s status would be ignored.

Doeren said Leary’s status for the No. 15 Wolfpack’s game at No. 18 Syracuse (5-0, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) this Saturday is undetermined.

North Carolina State (5-1, 1-1 ACC) would turn to Jack Chambers if Leary isn’t available. Chambers is 6-for-14 passing for 48 yards and one touchdown this season.

Chambers is in his first season with the Wolfpack after transferring from FCS program Charleston Southern. He spent four seasons with the Buccaneers and passed for 2,490 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2021.

Leary has passed for 1,265 yards, 11 touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He threw for a school-record 35 passing scores last season, breaking Philip Rivers’ mark of 34 set in 2003.
