Star running back Blake Corum sat for most of the second half with an apparent left knee injury Saturday as No. 3 Michigan rallied for a 19-17 win against visiting Illinois.
The Heisman Trophy contender headed to the locker room with trainers late in the second quarter, but returned to the field for one play in the third quarter.
With 1:38 left in the first half, the crowd at Michigan Stadium held its collective breath when Corum appeared to be favoring his knee after being tackled after a 4-yard gain. He fumbled on the play and the Illini recovered.
Initial reports out of Ann Arbor, Mich., characterized Corum’s injury as a bruise.
Corum finished with 108 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries and added two catches for 39 yards.
For the season, he has rushed for 1,457 yards and 18 touchdowns in 11 games for the unbeaten Wolverines (11-0), who defeated Illinois (7-4) with Jake Moody’s late 35-yard field goal.
