Miami Hurricanes quarterback Tyler Van Dyke left Saturday’s 45-21 loss to Duke in the second quarter due to an apparent injury to his right shoulder.
Van Dyke, considered a possible first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft prior to this season, injured his passing shoulder while being sacked in the second quarter.
Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal said the severity of the injury was still to be determined.
“He was banged up enough where we did not feel comfortable putting him back in,” Cristobal said afterward. “Don’t know the severity of it. Sometime tonight or tomorrow.”
Prior to the injury, Van Dyke completed 11 of 16 passes for 81 yards and one touchdown. He was not intercepted.
Van Dyke was replaced by Jake Garcia with Duke leading Miami 17-7.
Garcia was intercepted three times while completing 13 of 21 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns.
“He had some good moments,” Cristobal said of Garcia. “Had some others that weren’t so good.”
