Record-setting Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong is staying in the Atlantic Coast Conference and transferring to North Carolina State for his final season.

The left-handed signal-caller announced his decision Saturday on social media, tweeting “Final chapter” along with an image of himself in a Wolfpack uniform.

Armstrong heads to Raleigh, N.C., as a graduate transfer with remaining eligibility thanks to the NCAA’s COVID exception from 2020. He also took a redshirt in 2018. He will be reunited with NC State offensive coordinator Robert Anae, who held the same role at Virginia from 2016-21.

Armstrong will look to bounce back and boost his NFL draft stock following a disappointing and emotional 2022 season in Charlottesville, Va.

He thew for 2,210 yards and just seven touchdowns against 12 interceptions under first-year Virginia coach Tony Elliott. The Cavaliers decided not to play the final two games after the tragic shooting deaths of three players and finished 3-7 overall.

Armstrong led the Atlantic Coast Conference with 4,449 passing yards and threw 31 touchdown passes in 2021.

He leaves Virginia with the school’s career records for passing yards (9,034) and touchdown passes (58). He also rushed for 1,267 yards and 20 TDs for his career.
