Warriors Gaming Squad defeated Raptors Uprising GC in two straight games on Saturday to take home the championship at the NBA 2K League’s The Tipoff event.
The clinching game, Game 2, went to overtime. It was there where the Warriors finally found their stride, outscoring the Raptors 16-5 to earn the 67-56 win and secure the championship hardware.
Nidal “Mama Im Dat Man” Nasser made two quick 3-pointers in the overtime session to help the Warriors take control. Meanwhile, a pair of free throws with 27.6 seconds to play capped a 24-point, 18-rebound outing for Jaden “Nay” Bhopal, securing the win.
Mama Im Dat Man finished with 14 points and 10 assists.
The Raptors, who nursed a 23-20 lead at halftime, tied the score to force overtime when Jarvis “Simptoms” Thompson canned a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left. Simptoms scored 18 while teammate Waseem “BallLikeSeem” Talbert paced the team with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
In Game 1, the Warriors sprinted out to a 21-9 lead after the first quarter, then kept the Raptors at bay the rest of the way in a 67-58 victory. Charlie “CB13” Bostwick powered the Warriors with 26 points and eight assists. Nay added 21 points and eight rebounds, while Mama Im Dat Man chipped in 11 points and six assists.
Antoine “antoinelove” Times led the Raptors with 12 assists and scored 16 points.
The Tipoff is the first of three tournaments that lead up to the NBA 2K League 5v5 Playoffs that run June 26-29. The Tipoff is followed by The Turn (May 29 to June 15) and The Ticket (June 18 and 22).
