Stephen Curry scored 30 points, including the winning layup in the final second, to lift the Golden State Warriors to a 141-139 victory over the host Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday in an NBA in-season tournament game.
As Curry’s ball was going through the basket, Draymond Green made contact with the rim. After a lengthy review, Green’s contact was deemed “not to cause the ball to take an unnatural bounce” and the basket was counted.
Dario Saric added 20 points off the bench for the Warriors, who have won five consecutive games following an opening loss.
Luguentz Dort scored 29 points, making all six of his 3-point attempts, to lead Oklahoma City. The Thunder were without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who sat out with a left knee sprain he sustained late in the team’s Wednesday loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Trail Blazers 115, Grizzlies 113 (OT)
Jerami Grant recorded 26 points and eight rebounds and Portland overcame a late 10-point deficit in regulation to defeat visiting Memphis in overtime. The contest was the opener for both teams in the NBA’s inaugural in-season tournament.
Malcolm Brogdon added 24 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and three steals as the Trail Blazers won their third consecutive game. Shaedon Sharpe scored 22 points and Deandre Ayton had 16 points, 12 rebounds and three steals for Portland.
Desmond Bane notched 33 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals and three blocked shots as the Grizzlies dropped to 0-6. Jaren Jackson Jr. added 30 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots for Memphis, the last winless team in the NBA.
Bucks 110, Knicks 105
Damian Lillard scored 15 of his team-high 30 points in the fourth quarter as Milwaukee beat visiting New York in the teams’ first game of the NBA’s inaugural in-season tournament.
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 22 points, Jae Crowder added 14, MarJon Beauchamp had 13 and Brook Lopez finished with 13 points and eight blocks for Milwaukee.
Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 45 points. Brunson hit a 3-pointer with 1:10 left to give New York its first lead since early in the second quarter, but Lillard scored the next six points as the Bucks pulled away.
Pacers 121, Cavaliers 116
Myles Turner went for a season-high 27 points, Tyrese Haliburton buried a long-range 2-pointer with 17.7 seconds remaining and host Indiana beat Cleveland in Indianapolis to become the first winner in the NBA’s new in-season tournament.
After Donovan Mitchell made a 15-footer for the Cavaliers late in the game, Haliburton connected from just inside the arc for a 117-114 lead. Turner finished with a team-high nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks to complement his team-high point total, while Haliburton put up an 18-point, 13-assist double-double.
Mitchell led all scorers with 38 points to go with a team-high nine assists. He shot 4-for-7 on 3-pointers, but the Cavaliers were outscored 45-24 by the Pacers from beyond the arc.
Heat 121, Wizards 114
Tyler Herro was just shy of a triple-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists as host Miami snapped a four-game losing streak at the expense of Washington.
Jimmy Butler added 20 points, and Bam Adebayo and Duncan Robinson had 18 apiece. Herro made 9 of 17 shots, including 4 of 7 3-pointers as the teams played their first game of the NBA’s inaugural in-season tournament.
Washington, which has lost three straight games, was led by Kyle Kuzma’s 22 points. Jordan Poole had 19 points and six assists.
Nuggets 125, Mavericks 114
Nikola Jokic had 33 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists, Michael Porter Jr. scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds and host Denver beat Dallas in the in-season tournament opener for both teams.
Jamal Murray logged 18 points and 13 assists, and Aaron Gordon also scored 18 points for the Nuggets.
Luka Doncic had 34 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, while Kyrie Irving scored 22 points in his return to the lineup for the Mavericks. Dallas was without head coach Jason Kidd, who didn’t make the trip due to a non-COVID illness. Assistant Sean Sweeney served as the acting head coach.
Nets 109, Bulls 107
Mikal Bridges hit the tiebreaking 3-pointer with 5:55 remaining, and Brooklyn edged host Chicago in group play of the NBA’s in-season tournament.
Bridges scored 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting, and his 3-pointer snapped a 93-93 tie following a steal by Dennis Smith Jr. After Bridges hit his clutch shot, he made a baseline dunk with 73 seconds left for a 108-104 lead. Dorian Finney-Smith scored a team-high 21 points for the Nets, who won their third straight game.
Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan scored 24 points apiece for the Bulls, who lost for the third time in four games. Coby White added 18 while Nikola Vucevic collected 13 and 13 boards.
