NBA roundup: Anthony Edwards leads Wolves’ rally past Thunder

Anthony Edwards scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves rallied for a 112-107 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday in Minneapolis.

Julius Randle added 19 points and eight rebounds for Minnesota, which closed the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run in the final minute. Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid scored 15 points apiece as the Timberwolves won for the eighth time in 10 games.

Oklahoma City led 107-104 with 1:09 remaining after Holmgren sank a pair of free throws. Randle cut the deficit to two when he made the first of two free-throw attempts with 53.1 seconds to go. DiVincenzo grabbed the rebound of a miss on the second foul shot, and Edwards put the Timberwolves on top for good when he drilled a step-back 3-pointer with 38.5 seconds to go.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 35 points and dished seven assists to lead the Thunder, who lost for only the third time in 28 games this season. Jalen Williams scored 17 points, and Chet Holmgren and Ajay Mitchell finished with 14 points apiece.

Spurs 126, Hawks 98

Victor Wembanyama had 26 points and 12 rebounds to help visiting San Antonio to a win over Atlanta.

The Spurs have won four straight against the Hawks and improved to 10-5 on the road. Wembanyama, in his fourth game back since missing 12 games with a calf strain, played only 21:28. Devin Vassell scored 18 points with seven rebounds, Stephon Castle had 17 points and seven assists and Keldon Johnson added 13 off the bench.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker led the Hawks with 23 points and Jalen Johnson had 17 points and 11 rebounds for his 18th double-double.

76ers 116, Knicks 107

VJ Edgecombe scored seven points down the stretch, guiding visiting Philadelphia to a victory over New York.

Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 30 points and nine assists, while Edgecombe supplied 23 points. Andre Drummond chipped in with 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Sixers, who were outrebounded 57-36 without Joel Embiid (illness). Philadelphia won for the fifth time in seven games.

Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns provided 22 points apiece for the Knicks. New York had won its previous six games (in addition to the NBA Cup championship game, which doesn’t count toward the regular-season standings) and had been 13-1 at home this season. Mitchell Robinson set season highs with 21 points and 16 rebounds for New York.

Celtics 129, Heat 116

Derrick White made 9 of 14 3-point attempts and scored a game-high 33 points while leading Boston to a home victory over short-handed Miami.

Boston outscored Miami 37-27 in the fourth. The Celtics made 10 3-pointers in the final period, sinking each of their first six attempts from behind the arc. Jaylen Brown added 30 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for Boston, which ended a two-game losing streak. Boston received a 15-point performance from Sam Hauser, who made 5 of 6 3-point attempts.

Kel’el Ware led the Heat with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Bam Adebayo finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Norman Powell scored 18 points, and Kasparas Jakucionis added 17.

Bulls 136, Cavaliers 125

Nikola Vucevic collected 24 points and 15 rebounds and Matas Buzelis scored 24 points as Chicago pulled away down the stretch for its second victory over host Cleveland in three nights.

Josh Giddey scored 17 points and Coby White had 13 points, six rebounds and a season-high nine assists for the Bulls, who won for the third time in their last 11 games.

With star guard Donovan Mitchell sidelined due to an illness, Darius Garland paced Cleveland with a season-high 35 points and added eight assists, while Jarrett Allen had 14 points and 12 rebounds. The Cavaliers have dropped nine of their past 14 games and are 1-5 on their home court since Nov. 30.
