Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor in the Georgia election interference case against former president Donald Trump and others, has stepped down from his post. District Attorney Fani Willis has accepted his resignation. Earlier, Judge Scott McAfee ruled that District Attorney Fani Willis could continue prosecuting former president Donald Trump in the Fulton Country election interference case only if Nathan Wade was no longer the special prosecutor.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis accepted Nathan Wade’s resignation letter and complimented him on his “professionalism and dignity” and other qualities.

Nathan Wade said that he was proud of the work that the team had accomplished and had offered his resignation “in the interest of democracy” and more.

Earlier Friday, Judge Scott McAfee presented a 23-page ruling that said there had been an “appearance of impropriety.” Still, there was insufficient evidence to consider that there had been a conflict of interest and that there was “a need to make proportional efforts to cure it.”

Although the case will continue, Trump’s lawyers have said that they will appeal the ruling, which will further delay the start of the case. A hearing on March 25 will consider an extension of 30 days.

Trump’s lawyers had filed a case against District Attorney Fani Willis, alleging a conflict of interest. She was allegedly romantically involved with special prosecutor Nathan Wade before he was hired to defend the case, which could affect the case.

Earlier, Donald Trump scored another minor victory when Judge McAfee dismissed some of the charges brought against him and other defendants in the Georgia election interference case. He ruled that six counts of the 41-count indictment lacked detail and could be refiled in the future.

Donald Trump is facing four criminal cases, and the delays will help him as the November 2024 rematch between him and President Joe Biden is expected to be a close fight. His lawyers are delaying the cases, which are expected to work in his favor.
