Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi is a strong and determined woman who became the first woman speaker of the House, in 2007. However, she is facing some rebellion, even within her own party–the Democrats, on the need for senior leaders to step down from their positions. Speaker Nancy Pelosi is 82 and is seeking reelection. She has represented her state of California for 35 years.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, Nancy Pelosi spoke of various issues and answered the questions asked by host Mitchell. She spoke of the tumultuous January 6 riot and the aftermath including the investigations into it.
When asked about recent comments made by younger Democrats, including a specific one, a Michigan Democrat that was played on air by the host, she dismissed it. She said that she should “just win, baby. Just win.” She added, “If that’s what you have to say to win, fine.”
Pelosi also said that the Democratic Party would offer total support to those people who wanted to win their elections in the following ways:
mobilization wise, message wise and, money wise.
Pelosi also told Mitchell that the Democrats needed “generational change” but she added that “in some cases, there’s no substitute for experience.”
The House Speaker also praised President Joe Biden and listed the achievements that had taken place under him, in just two years and called it a “remarkable record.” She listed the achievements of the two years including the following:
The Inflation Reduction Package
The Chips and Science Act
The PACT Act for veterans and
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill.
The top leadership in the Democratic Party is old but they are also experienced. Speaker Nancy Pelosi is 82, while President Joe Biden is 79. House Majority Whip James C. Clyburn is 82 while House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is 83.
In the Senate, Majority Leader Charles Schumer is 71, while Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is hoping to replace him as leader of the Senate, is 80 years old.
The November midterms will be a close fought battle. The results are extremely difficult to call. However, the results will be the decisive factor on whether leadership changes or remains. Nancy Pelosi, one of the biggest ever fundraisers for the Democrats, will be visiting Michigan, on Wednesday for a fundraiser.
