When Elon Musk overtook Bezos to become the richest man in the planet, a few days ago, he trolled the Amazon founder by posting an emoji of a silver medal on a post by Amazon.
Ironically Elon Musk’s wealth is more than the combined wealth of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet who are also among the top 10 billionaires in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Bill Gates was at Number 4 with $130B and Warren Buffet was at Number 10 with $103B. However, both Gates and Buffet are known for their philanthropy while Musk said that he prefers to anonymously give away his wealth.
Recently, a ProPublica report showed that both Musk and Bezos’ companies paid minimal income tax and so did many other major companies in the U.S. The companies operated legally and used the loopholes available in U.S. taxation laws. The ProPublica report and the recent revelations of the Pandora Papers have brought into focus the need for reform in taxation laws in the U.S.
The sometimes silly, sometimes amusing and definitely unnecessary trolling between the world’s richest person and the world’s second richest person continues as Elon Musk trolls Bezos on Twitter and Jeff Bezos continues to file lawsuits on Musk in the nation’s court as his space company Blue Origin lost out on NASA contracts which were awarded to Musk’s SpaceX.
As of October 16, 2021, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index:
Elon Musk–$236B
Jeff Bezos–$197B
