Wesley Yates III scored 23 points and Desmond Claude added 20 as Washington rallied to defeat Southern 99-93 in double overtime Tuesday night in Seattle.

Quimari Peterson added 15 points for the Huskies (4-1), including a driving layup with 1.9 seconds left in the first overtime to tie the score. Lathan Sommerville scored 10 points and fellow center Franck Kepnang had six points, 12 rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots.

Michael Jacobs scored 24 points to lead the upset-minded Jaguars (2-3), who led by 12 points on multiple occasions, the last with 13:17 left in regulation. Cam Amboree added 18 points and nine assists and Terrance Dixon Jr. had 17 points and six rebounds before fouling out.

Claude, like Yates a transfer from USC, opened the second overtime with a jumper and the Huskies never were caught again. Claude made his Washington debut after missing the first four games with an ankle injury.

The Huskies rallied from a five-point deficit in the final 24 seconds of the first overtime to force a second extra session. Yates made a 3-pointer with 18 seconds left.

After Amboree made two free throws, Peterson was fouled while attempting a 3-pointer and made all three foul shots to make it 85-84.

Jacobs made 1 of 2 free throws with seven seconds to go before Peterson’s driving layup tied it.

Claude had a chance to win it in regulation for the hosts but missed a shot at the buzzer.

Washington’s Zoom Diallo, one of only two returnees on the roster, fouled out with 7:02 remaining in regulation after scoring just nine points. Diallo entered the game tied for the team lead with 15.2 points per game.

The Huskies played without freshman forward Hannes Steinbach, who suffered a foot injury in an 81-69 Apple Cup victory at Washington State last Friday. Steinbach posted double-doubles in each of Washington’s previous three games.
