Coldplay will perform its new single on May 9 on American Idol. Variety reports that the Mother’s Day episode will play their song “Higher Power,” which will be released on May 7. The band’s catalog will be featured in the special episode. Chris Martin will mentor all the seven contestants. This is the first release since the release of “Flags” in 2019. The 2019 song was released as a bonus track in “Everyday Life.”
The show is scheduled to air on ABC at 8 p.m. ET. It will feature the much awaited live debut of the new single, for which teasers have been released on TikTok. The British band created a buzz around their ninth album through a worldwide campaign on Alien Radio.
The American Idol episode will be a two-hour episode. The remaining finalists are going to prepare and perform two songs. One of the singer’s will pay tribute to Mother’s Day with a song dedicated to their loved one to honor this special day and there will also be a song from Coldplay. Martin will prepare the top seven singers to belt out popular Coldplay covers in the second performance of the night. The 44-year singer and songwriter is the well-known front man of the British Band.
The popular singing show American Idol is currently in its 19th season. The show is hosted by Ryan Seacrest. The judges are famous singers such as Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
Variety also reported that voting is scheduled to begin when next week’s American Idol episode starts. The end of the show will be exciting as the names of the top five finalists will be revealed.
