Host CF Montreal benefitted from a Toronto FC own goal to take a 1-0 win on Saturday.

Montreal (10-8-2, 32 points) snapped a two-game losing streak.

Toronto (5-12-4, 19 points) was shut out for the second straight game and the third time in its past four games.

After a slow start for both sides, Montreal found its game and took over the play.

Montreal attempted 12 shots in the first half, four on target, and had seven corners while owning a 64 percent advantage in possession. Toronto managed four shots, two on target, after going the first 20 minutes without an attempt.

In the fifth minute, Romell Quioto sent a cross to Kei Kamara at the top of the goal area. Kamara looked to have an opening just inside the post but was denied by the dive of goalkeeper Alex Bono.

Mark-Anthony Kaye had Toronto’s first chance in the 22nd minute from the left side of the box but goalkeeper James Pantemis got his hand on the ball to deflect it away.

Matko Miljevic finished off a stretch of possession by Montreal from just inside the box in the 26th minute but Bono got a piece of the ball with his hand, sending it wide of the post.

The home side’s dominance continued in the second half. Quioto had a pair of chances two minutes apart early on, only to see both go over the net. In the 53rd minute, Miljevic’s cross-body kick sent the ball just past the left post.

Toronto had a rare chance off a free kick but was denied on a sliding kick by Montreal defender Kamal Miller.

Bono was sharp again for the visitors in the 66th minute, jumping to get a hand on a header from Quioto.

Montreal finally got on the board three minutes later on an own goal by Toronto defender Lukas MacNaughton from the left side of the goal area for the 1-0 lead.

Ayo Akinola leveled the score in the 73rd minute but the goal was called for offside.

Miller was shown a red card in the 81st minute after being assessed his second yellow card of the match, leaving Montreal down to 10 men for the remainder of the contest.
