Daniel Pereira scored two minutes after entering the game as a second-half substitute and Austin FC began a three-game road trip by beating Charlotte FC 1-0 on Thursday night.

Pereira’s goal came in the 62nd minute.

Austin FC (9-4-4, 31 points) went 2-0-1 in MLS games in June, earning two shutout wins during the month.

Goalkeeper Brad Stuver made two saves in the latest victory.

Pereira took a shot from outside the top of the box, and the ball ended up in the net after bouncing off the underside of the crossbar. Nick Lima was credited with an assist.

The goal capped a busy stretch for Pereira, who entered the game in the 60th minute and was called for a foul before converting his right-footed attempt. It was the second goal of the season and of the career for Pereira, a 21-year-old midfielder.

Charlotte FC (6-10-2, 20 points) is 0-2-1 in its last three games. Only two of its nine shots went on target.

Kristijan Kahlina, who was back after missing last weekend’s game because of health and safety protocol, made one save for Charlotte FC.

After 10 Charlotte FC players were out for a visit to Montreal for a match, the roster was back closer to full strength for this encounter. However, it didn’t matter as the team was shut out for the first time in eight games.

Charlotte FC had the better possession time in the first half, but Austin FC tended to be more aggressive. Eight of the nine fouls called were assessed to Austin FC.

By game’s end, Austin FC had been whistled for 13 fouls, including three in the final 10 minutes.

This was a clash between the two newest teams in the MLS, with Charlotte FC in its inaugural season. Charlotte FC fell to 6-3-0 in home matches.
